Editorial policy

Last reviewed: July 11, 2026

This page explains how our content is researched, written and maintained. It applies to every article on the site.

Source hierarchy

For medical, scientific, safety and regulatory statements we rely first on primary and authoritative sources: the FDA, the National Institutes of Health and its Office of Dietary Supplements, the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health, the National Library of Medicine and MedlinePlus, the American Heart Association, the CDC, Mayo Clinic and Cleveland Clinic, and peer-reviewed systematic reviews and human clinical studies. We avoid using unattributed blog posts, affiliate pages or AI-generated summaries as evidence.

Describing evidence honestly

We state the type of evidence behind a claim — laboratory, animal, observational, small human study, randomized controlled trial, systematic review, or manufacturer claim — and we do not describe preliminary findings as if they were settled. Evidence about a single ingredient is never presented as proof that a finished, multi-ingredient product produces the same result.

Manufacturer statements and product facts

We use manufacturer material only for product-specific details such as the product name, the ingredients named on the label, serving directions, package contents, price, guarantee, shipping and seller information. These are labeled as manufacturer statements, not independent proof. Anything that can change is marked with the date it was checked. When a fact cannot be verified, we omit it or say plainly that it could not be confirmed rather than inventing a figure.

What we will not publish

We do not invent studies, statistics, testimonials, expert quotes, awards, certifications or results. We do not claim that a supplement treats, cures or prevents disease, and we do not describe any dietary supplement as FDA-approved, because the FDA does not approve dietary supplements before they are marketed. We do not use fake reviews, star ratings, countdown timers or false scarcity.
